Tyumenneftegaz Develops Ecotourism in Tyumen Region

13 April 2023

Tyumenneftegaz (part of Rosneft’s oil and gas production complex) has launched a large-scale environmental education grant programme. The research aims to protect the Tyumen region’s biodiversity and has practical implications for the region’s inhabitants.

Preservation of the environment for future generations is an integral part of the corporate culture of Rosneft. The Company has a number of comprehensive programmes for the conservation and restoration of natural resources, including the use of modern technology.

The programme consists of two phases, the first of which presents projects for nature trails around Solenoye Lake, taking into account the habitats of red-listed animals and plants. The second phase will see the development and creation of landscaped trails and the installation of information stands on local flora and fauna.

The popularity of Solenoye Lake among tourists has increased thanks to the initiative of Rosneft’s subsidiaries – Tyumenneftegaz, Uvatneftegaz and the Tyumen Petroleum Research Centre – whose employees have drawn the public’s attention to the need to preserve the lake, whose water and mud have unique properties. Its hydrochemical composition is comparable to that of the water and mud of the Dead Sea. The lake is visited by thousands of tourists every year, also for balneotherapy.

In 2022, as part of a project funded by Tyumenneftegaz, scientists from Tyumen State University conducted a comprehensive ecological and biological study of Solenoye Lake. Research has identified 428 species of animals, plants and fungi around the lake. In 2022, there are 10 species listed in the Red Books as rare and in need of protection at various levels.

Note for Editors:

Tyumenneftegaz, a subsidiary of Rosneft, is developing the Russkoye field, located in the Tazovsky district of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District. The Russkoye field is classified as unique in terms of oil reserves.
