30 September 2021

Samotlorneftegaz, an enterprise of Rosneft Oil Company’s production complex, has planted 350,000 seedlings of conifers - Siberian pine and Scots pine on the territory of the Megion forestry in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District--Yugra. The total area planted during the 2021 growing season has amounted to 80 hectares.

Environment protection is an integral part of Rosneft Oil Company’s corporate culture and social policy. The Company is implementing a number of comprehensive programmes for the preservation and restoration of natural resources. Rosneft is committed to the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, including the Life On Land.

The planting stock is adapted for cultivation under the Western Siberian natural and climatic conditions. Over the next three years, the conifers will undergo agronomic inspections and maintenance annually.

Since 2008, Samotlorneftegaz has been regularly carrying out afforestation in the Nizhnevartovsk, Megion and Aganskoye forestry districts. Some 1.7 million cedar and pine seedlings have been planted on a total area of 450 hectares over this period. The trees that have been planted so far will help to absorb 500 tonnes of CO2 per year in the future.

As part of its environmental efforts, Samotlorneftegaz is not only planting trees, but also restoring the biodiversity of Yugra’s water resources. During the summer and autumn of 2021, the enterprise released 1.9 million fry of valuable fish species, muksun and Siberian sturgeon, into the Ob-Irtysh and Yenisei basins. Overall, the campaigns have added more than 11 million fry to the waters of northern rivers over the past five years.
